Jack is a fictional character in the role-playing video game series Mass Effect by BioWare. Jack appears as a squadmate in Mass Effect 2 , and may appear in Mass Effect 3 as a supporting character provided she survives the events of the previous game. Jack is voiced by Courtenay Taylor. Within the series, Jack was orphaned at an early age and was kidnapped by the anthropocentric paramilitary group Cerberus to be exploited as a test subject. Designated Subject Zero by Cerberus, she is considered to be one of the most powerful human biotics in existence in the Mass Effect trilogy as the result of unethical experiments conducted by Cerberus to enhance human biotic ability, though her traumatic experiences have molded her into an antisocial and psychopathic individual.
Mass Effect Cosplayer Absolutely Nails This Jack Cosplay
The original Mass Effect trilogy from BioWare was nothing short of iconic with an incredibly loyal fanbase in its stead. Though we have long since said our farewells to Commander Shepard, but the fight for survival against the Reapers will forever live in our hearts. But it wasn't just the story that enraptured us. The characters as well were enthralling and one such character had such a tremendous evolution from Mass Effect 2 into Mass Effect 3 that this cosplay of our beloved Jack was too good to pass up. Jack, for those that may not know, was dubbed "Subject Zero" by the pro-human organization Cerberus in-game. With a mouth that would make sailors blush and a sordid past filled with betrayal, pain, and uncomfortable revelations, this is one of the companions and potential love interests to Commander Shepard that underwent the most dramatic metamorphisis.
The Mass Effect trilogy was a critical success for a number of reasons, notable among them the amazing cast of diverse characters. From the increasingly grizzled Turian security operative Garrus to the brilliant Asari Liara who slowly loses her innocence while using her biotic abilities to control others, each character feels fully developed and has their own narrative arc. Of all the characters introduced in Mass Effect 2 , few are as unapologetically tough and visually interesting as Jack. She's a woman with a traumatic past, trust issues, some awesome tattoos, and a power set that makes her one of the strongest characters in the franchise.
Say what you will about Mass Effect , there's no denying that it is a fascinating series. The developers put a lot of love and care into the world-building and did a stellar job creating the lore and the vast variety of alien species. From the blue, biotic Asari to the fierce but honorable Krogan to the curious, mysterious Quarians, this series has given cosplayers plenty of characters to cover. However dressing up like these aliens isn't as simple as wearing pointed ears and calling yourself a Vulcan. It takes time and resources to truly craft an amazingly accurate costume.
